"Doing Together What We Cannot Do Alone"

The Women’s Room at Friends In Deed, a daytime refuge for women who are alone and homeless or at risk, opened on Sept. 13, 2007.
This community of women concentrates on preserving and restoring dignity and self-respect, which lie at the heart of everyone’s success. Through access to good grooming, stimulating activities, camaraderie individual attention to problem solving and referrals, women blossom and move forward with their lives.
The Women’s Room (TWR) offers shower and laundry facilities, a quiet place to nap, two computers and a telephone and a host of activities, not the least of which are Bingo and movies. Yet more than these services, TWR has become a place of discovery. At the Tuesday Writing Workshop, many have found their voice. Sachet and quilt-making projects have given women new confidence. Musical talents emerge on the day of music.
Currently The Women’s Room is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 pm and Tuesdays, from 9am-12noon, with the Writers’ Workshop 1-3 pm.
The Women’s Room was developed as an outreach of the All Saints’ Women’s Issues Committee (WIC). During a two-year study, the committee found a gap in services for women who have no drug or alcohol problem or serious mental problems. With the guidance of the Downtown Women’s Center on Skid Row in Los Angeles, WIC developed The Women’s Room.
