Other Programs

CAMP AND CAMPERSHIPS
ECPAC will be sending 22 children to the Circle V Ranch Camp (overnight camp) in Santa Barbara this summer. Fifteen out of the twenty-two will be homeless children referred by Families In Transition, a program of the Pasadena Unified School District. The others will be low income children from our pantry program.
In addition ECPAC will provide partial scholarships to the Harambee Christian Family Center Day Camp for 25 children from our pantry program that wish to attend this five week day camp. The need for summer programs for children is particularly great this year as PUSD will not be holding summer school classes.

THE BIRTHDAY BOX PROJECT

The Birthday Box Project (www.birthdayboxproject.org) has decided to adopt our Food Pantry, and will provide the resources needed for two hundred low income families from our pantry to create memorable birthday parties for their children. We appreciate the fact that the birthday boxes are given to parents, and that the donor is completely anonymous.

STAY HEALTHY

The Stay Healthy program is intended to promote a healthy life style by our low income and homeless clients. In addition to providing healthy foods in our pantry, we offer regular nutrition classes to our pantry clients. After the new kitchenette is installed later this year, we will once again offer healthy cooking classes. Yoga and stretching classes are offered for the Women’s Room guests each month.

THANKSGIVING GOBBLER

Each year the Pasadena Jaycees provide turkeys and Thanksgiving fixings for the clients of Friends In Deed. Friends In Deed's Gobbler 2008 provided 215 families and individuals with Thanksgiving food.

In 2008 they collected over 2,500 food items from our food drives and raised enough funds and donations to purchase over 131 turkeys, 68 hams, and 205 pumpkin pies! With the help of more than 50 volunteers from the Jaycees, Warner Brothers, and the community, they made this one of the most AMAZING years in Op Gobbler HISTORY! They helped provide over 192 families (over 500 people) with full Thanksgiving meals including turkey or ham, stuffing, gravy, fruit, vegetables, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, soup, rolls, cranberry sauce, milk, coffee, and pumpkin pie! Many Thanks to all the Pasadena Jaycees!
