PASADENA - This year 155 children - a 30 percent increase from last year - have signed up for the annual "Back to School" program run by the Ecumenical Council Pasadena Area Congregations.

Donors are being sought to provide backpacks and school supplies for the children, who signed up through the Food Pantry and Friends in Deed, said the Rev. Pat O'Reilly, ECPAC's executive director.

O'Reilly said the group has a source that will sell backpacks for $8 for elementary school students and $12 for high-schoolers.

Donors are asked to help out by purchasing backpacks or supplies, writing a check or donating through PayPal on ECPAC's website, ecpac.net.

Supplies can be brought to 444 E. Washington Blvd. Checks can be made out to ECPAC and sent to P.O. Box 41125, Pasadena, CA 91114.

O'Reilly said they hope to organize the materials on Friday, and distribute them on Aug. 22 and 23.
